Big Ship’s Happening for Charleston: What does this mean for Residential Real Estate?

The residential real estate marketing in Charleston, South Carolina just received another boost in the form of a huge ship.  In addition to its historic charm, Charleston’s 90-mile coast-line, unique culture, and award-winning hospitality, make it the number 1 city in the United States (voted by Travel + Leisure).

According to the Charleston Regional Development Alliance, an average of 34 people move to the Charleston area every day- a number that will continue to grow in the years to come. We can largely attribute this growth to the SCPA’s (South Carolina Ports Authority’s) efficient big-ship crane operations and Charleston’s wide and deep harbor-soon to be the deepest on the entire East Coast at 52 feet.

The 13,000 TEU (Twenty- foot Equivalent Unit) vessel in Charleston’s Harbor is great news for Charleston residential real estate. To give you an idea of just how big the COSCO Development is, think 1 Eiffel Tower, 2 Washington Monuments, or 8 Statues of Liberty. Now that’s a BIG ship! “The arrival of the COSCO Development at East Coast ports marks a new era,” said Jim Newsome, SCPA president and CEO.
